Compliance Officer – Derivatives

THE COMPANY:

Our client is an equities trading platform providing low-cost, high-performance trading to both retail and institutional investors. Their proprietary trading technology is designed to deliver reliable and efficient execution, with a focus on reducing trading costs for their clients.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Proactively monitor compliance with relevant UK regulations, including the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) rules, Market Abuse Regulation (MAR), and other applicable legislation.
• Stay up-to-date on evolving regulations and industry best practices, identifying potential risks and implementing necessary controls.
• Develop, review, and maintain comprehensive compliance policies and procedures for the trading venue.
• Conduct regular audits and reviews of trading activity to identify and investigate potential breaches of regulations or internal policies.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure a cohesive compliance framework.
• Educate and train staff on compliance policies and procedures, fostering a culture of awareness and accountability.
• Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of compliance activities, investigations, and findings.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities as required, responding to inquiries and providing reports.
• Surveillance of client activity;
• Assist in the development of surveillance system enhancements and subsequent testing of;
• To draft relevant reports associated with the departments activity
• Assist the Head of Market Supervision with identification of regulatory issues impacting transaction authorisation, structure, execution and marketing with the provision of potential solutions and / or alternatives if required.
• Compose rulebook product updates to be sent to regulators in line with product releases on company platforms.
• Coordinate consultation responses by collaborating with all areas of the business to submit answers in an effective manner.
• Building Tech Client relationships and extending services to those that require assistance with regulatory compliance matters.
• Attending various industry initiatives and events to keep abreast of regulatory developments in the sector such as AI, DORA, OP/RES, Cryptocurrency etc.
• Become a member of CISI and complete a qualification to solidify compliance/regulatory knowledge.
• Ownership of the Compliance Monitoring Programme and lead in delegating tasks to various members of the compliance/surveillance team.

EXPERIENCED REQUIRED:

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a financial services compliance role, preferably within a regulator, investment firm, trading venue or stock exchange.
• Proficient understanding of UK/EU financial regulations, including the FCA rulebook (PERG, SYSC, and MAR etc) and the ESMA rules and regulations. (MIFID 2/MIFIR).
• Experience with derivatives trading and/or regulation, e.g. derivatives trading or exchange compliance.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and address compliance risks.
• Clear and concise communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively explain complex regulatory concepts to a diverse audience.
